i just read the book greta and cecil by Diana Souhami about her love affair with the photographer Cecil Beaton. maybe he was the love of her life after Mauritz Stiller and John Gilbert.
Does anyone have any photos of them together? I know she often stayed at his house at Broadchalke (it's now owned by pop singer Madonna) and they visited london and 10 downing st together.
i think Cecil was heartbroken when they split up, so sad.
When he first met her in the 30's at a party apparently she had a rose and she kissed it and gave it to Cecil and he kept it for the rest of his life. It was found in his house when he died.....sad that they never married because i think they wanted to at some time.
Would love to see some photos of them together.

I never sympathized with Beaton. He always was a narcistic thinking and behaving old drag queen.
He did many things for G but mostly for his own persona. To shine in her light and so on.
Garbo always knew this but they were close friends and had some kind of "love" affair in the mid-end 40s.
I always thought that this was more of "sister-brother" relationship or better say "sister-sister". ;D
Some say that Garbo was " the Man" in the realtionship and he was " the woman".
It may was a game for both of them ;-)
In this situation : Garbo was more like a child but he..i think he really was very queer.
my thoughts.

Well, I am very sad to read few books of Cecil Beaton that he wrote so many stories about her and himself, too but I am not sure if he told the truth or half-truth or lies? I hate to see how he talked little ugly about her things! She was very hurt and heartache alot when he sold many pictures and books for the publicity during her lifetime.....he wanted the money instead of being gentleman to keep shut mouth? He was the lucky one that she tried to forgive him again instead of unforgiving her friend Mercedes De Ascota wrote a book once!!!!! Whoa? She hated biographies because of fiction or lies? ? Do you know why?

She hated it cos she thought that she could trust them but i think there was more than this..
I belive that she "tested" the persons all the time..it wasn´t easy to be a friend for GG...maybe she even "played" with all of them..she tested and played...tried to analyse them..how far they would go and so on...
GG knew oh so well what was going on....she had an amazing sense when its coming to trust, honesty and things like this..

;D Oh John, really? Did she likes to test anyone if they are leaking some stories about her or not? Because she wanted to be sure if they are her true friends or not! She got limit of friends she trusts!...sometime kick her friend if leak out the stories to others? Cecil was great artist, too and I wonder why GG liked him so much and she always went to his home alot? Maybe his garden that she loved it most? I think she was not crazy about his looks? She was so masculine and he was so effeminate (girlish)? right? Different views! Imagine how sisters are together like that instead of brother and sister! Ha!

Hi Dave ;-) Its no secret that GG had a masculine side and loved to dress up in men clothes or behave a bit like a man esp. in her later years. She loved it, it gave her freedom. When she was "friends" with Beaton at this time..i think she may was a bit unsure about this "habbit". Beaton maybe loved to dress up as a woman ...who knows.so they switched the roles , ya know ;-) About testing the friends.Yeah , i think so but GG didn´t put that much thought in it.she was solo-living person anyway.so she just watched and looked closer to those persons. Maybe just to protcet herself or even to "play" with them, yeah, i think so..
