well that's it. the last Garbo movie that i will capture. this is the end of my 2 months tribute, i hope everyone has enjoyed them as much as i did. she may haven't always played in masterpieces but she was in all of them still fascinating. that's what i was trying to proove with these captures. and i guess we'll never found out what was it all about. that mystery, that face, that erotism, the way she walks, the way she talks etc... this week there is 79 captures of that fateful movie which i think isn't that bad. in fact, i actually rather enjoy it. It's a kind of awkward screwball comedy. i wish someday we could see a "director's cut" because it has been badly edited thanks to the catholic legion of decency. Does anyone know if edited parts has survived ? here is the link. garbolives.blogspot.com/now i will let this blog live as long as possible. i may in the future capture her two previous MGM movie (Gosta Berling/Joyless Street) as they are still not released on DVD. i just have to get them if anyone can trade with me a good quality of them... i'll let you know. thank you for your comments, in the future please write them on the blog as i'll sure read them. take care philippe

Thanks again for great snapshots of this movie which I hadn't seen yet so the captures made me know a little more about "Two faced woman". It seems quite funny movie! Sad it's the last tribute... I really hope Borzage will capture GB and JS in the future! Dave, as always thanks for the funny comments!!!

She said "Oh my heart beats so faster because I love you very much, my sweetheart David!" I have it on very good authority (sorry, can't tell you or I would have to kill you) that as she was preparing for the scene, she was given a secret portal into the future, where she was able to view the contents and participants of this forum. From this very rare and special insight, what you are seeing on display in this screen shot is a reflection of her inspiration for this scene, a manifestation of the deep sadness she felt at this very moment for knowing that she would never ever get the chance to be with her one true love, DAVID. It was a weary sadness which followed her to the end of her days. .

on a more mundane note..
Garbo looks older than 36 to me in many of these shots. Like 50 or thereabouts.
But then again, I tend to think that way about many movie stars, especially "classic" movie stars. They always seem older to me than they really are. Perhaps it's in a sense of authority or heightened stature that they project, or that I attach to them, that becomes inextricably linked in my mind with someone of an older age.
Or maybe it's simply the hairstyle in some of these captures. *unsure*

Like 50 or thereabouts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It did seem to me, too, that Garbo looked older than her age in this film. It would stand to reason, though, because G. even at 20 y/o looked much older and wiser than she was. I think that's why her leading men seemed so juvenile. They were *age appropriate*, but G. was a very old soul.

Interesting points.
But then I wonder if someone (like Garbo) who is supposedly projecting an "old soul" is truly bringing forth that quality from deep within, or is it more anatomical, and therefore less evocative and beguiling, than we care to admit?
Like most things, probably a combination of both.

...or is it more anatomical, and therefore less evocative and beguiling, than we care to admit? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's definitely anatomical, too. The long lean body, the slouch, the expressive arms and hands. And don't forget the walk ~ so studied and languorous. And then, of course, the stillness which is not a characteristic of youth. This doesn't make it less evocative or beguiling. More like incredibly artful. I think this entire style was taught to her by Stiller, as it was already evident in the two earliest films: Joyless St. and Berling.

Oh that was very sad for aging so fast and youth is so short! Life goes ON!!!!!!! She refused to act in her old age later! She kept her Eternal Youth Face in her films! Divine Face! I read a book by Karen Swenson...page 486 "David Niven wrote in Bring on the Empty Horses. "I often wondered if something of the sort had overtaken Garbo at the pinnacle of her career..." So he decided to ask her one rainy afternoon. "Why did you give up the movies?" he inquired. "She considered her answer so carefully that I wondered if she had decided to ignore my personal question. At last, almost to herself, she said, 'I had made enough faces.' "

Thanks for all the captures borzage!!! Sad, that this tribute did end now...
I have to agree, GG always looked older than she was- not because of wrinkles, or so- her face, she looked older... can not express why.

They should release this film on DVD now.d**n, would love to create THAT DVD!! I would colorize the film ;-) Loved the colorized CAMILLE.Its a great bonus for film buffs even if MOST classic film lovers HATE it...i think its just a little bonus.nothing more. Also, i would love to see the Longer version with the deleted scenes. There is one version but its unreleased. It does have some alternate or longer scenes. I would also ad the FULL 13 Minutes screentest she did for DUCHESS in 1949 as a bonus.THE FULL ONE with some wonderfull background music. A new doku about GG and much more
