Hello everyone, I need help! I am in highschool and I'm doing a PowerPoint Presentation on Greta Garbo for my English Lit. class. We were given the opportunity to choose the person that we wanted to do a report on. I obviously chose Greta Garbo. I am really excited because I know that no one in my class has heard of her and I want to do my best. Everyone has chosen musicians or athletes. The person that kids sadly decided to read about was infinitely Kurt Cobain. The biography I stumbled upon happened to be 'Garbo: Her Story' by Antoni Gronowicz (I'm sure that's right), which probably wasn't the best book written on Garbo. I wondered if anyone can help me with these: Notable Achievements in her life (awards, accomplishments): Interesting or little known facts about Garbo: THANK YOU! ;D

hi welcome to join our Garbo.....yeah sad that she did not win it until her best memorable films in 1954 that she got an oscar but not best actress, why? ? She was not really happy to get it, I think so! My opinion that she did not like her movies at all because she hated being "Vicked Vomen" (Wicked Women)! I think that she was so very happy about her comedy "Ninotchka"!!!! Thank for your words, D.L.

..but she won an tribute oskar in 54 ) Yes, J...it was true! Garbo refused to be in the Academy Awards show because she was so frightful to face the crowds! That was her naturally way! Only one oscar! No more! I wonder where is her oscar now? I hope the oscar will be in the museum to celebrate Garbo's 100th soon!

here's information about her oscar....Hollywood was also making a belated reassessment and, in contrition for past neglect, the Motion Picture Academy voted her a special Oscar in 1954. "I knew that Garbo would never make an appearance to accept the Oscar, " said Jean Negulesco, who produced the Academy Awards show that year and hoped she would let him come to New York and make a short acceptance film in her apartment, or anywhere else. Her answer was, "Thank you, but no," and Nancy Kelly accepted the Oscar for her. Years later, in converstation with Sam Green, she said she had read in TV Guide that "Garbo never got an Oscar" and that it wasn't true. "I have one in a cupboard," she said. "They picked someone I didn't know to receive it for me, and the wife of Mr. Wallis (Minna) kept it for two years before sending it on." Green suggested she make a lamp out of it, but she replied, "I have enough lamps." ;D By Barry Paris (Garbo book) pg. 440 'Now, I'd like to see your Oscar,' I said. We had discussed it earlier. And Garbo quickly produced a box from under the bookshelves from which she took out the glittering golden object. It was taller and heavier than I excepted. Tears almost came to my eyes as i stood there holding that heavy statuette inscribed: GRETA GARBO FOR HER UNFORGETTABLE SCREEN PERFORMANCES 1954 'I do think this award should stand here on the writing table,' I said. Garbo was actually moved by my reaction and exclaimed: 'So you're not ashamed of me in Sweden, then?' 'No, we' re very proud of you.' 'When all that was going on, they rang from Hollywood, you know----they wanted me to go and fetch it in person at that gala of theirs,' said Garbo. 'I did not want to. Then they suggested that they interview me on the telephone during the broadcast, but I declined. It was the wife of my old agent who went to pick the object up and I think she had it for two years before it ended up here.' I was afraid Garbo would put the Oscar back in its box as soon as we left, but it stood majestically on the writing table the whole time we were there.' by Sven Broman (Conversations with Garbo book) pg. 228-229
