Did anybody of the message board buy anything of the Garbo estate? I have a list of the result of the auction and I wonder where these treasures went to……. It would be extremely interesting to know who those devoted (and rich) fans are and what they have done with their purchase.

I was fortunate enough to be there. I believe many of her top-shelf paintings were sold in a separate auction. But I remember that even the smallest trinket went for 2 or 3 thousand dollars. Like most of the people, I was but a spectator. I did get the Sotheby's book, and still have my invitation to the event! Ah, the good old days!

There was an eclectic mix of people there, which was appropriate. Miss G's collecting taste was quite varied. Everything from refined high-end to kitschy. Very cool. One lady sticks out in my mind. A very tall woman with a thick long mane of silvery black hair, wearing a stylish black cape. Probably in her 60s, beautiful cheekbones. She was very Garbo-esque in her features. Don't know who she was but very striking. There were a lot of people making bids over the telephones too. One lady in front of me kept bidding on anything that came up, and when the bidding hit 3,000 she would drop out. I think she finally won a small figurine for just under her limit, and she yelled out "Yay, I GOT something!".

Thanks for describing the auction………I was so surprised that they auctioned these items in the first place. The catalogue is produced beautifully and I compared the estimates with the amount it reached in the auction and I can see that people were just desperate to get something, whatever…..
I will try to post the results in the new year…..I am sure some of the items will turn up one day on Ebay, but the prize they paid originally was already that high that it is impossible to buy our real Garbo item.
It was interesting to read in the catalogue the dates when Garbo purchased some of her most valuable paintings. She went shopping in a big way….a few Renoirs in a few weeks – very good investment too (even though Renoir is one of my least favourite painters, but that is just personal taste…….)………makes my shopping trip in New York look rather pathetic ………<br>
